Fair Haven RiverGrass Music Jam and Open Mic - Monday evenings at Dover Beach Park

RiverGrass Music Jam and Open Mic
Every Monday Nights @ 6:30 to 7:00 pm...
Location: Dover Beach Park, at Front St and John Williamson Dr, New Haven

Acoustic string Instruments are invited, no amplified instruments allowed, all levels of musicianship are welcomed. Core musicians and teachers, open mic performers, beginner and intermediate musicians of all ages, genders, and ethnicities are invited and welcomed.

Monday night RiverGrass will start with the same four songs repeating until everyone who wants in, gets a shot at it, while everyone else continues to play along for learning and support; everyone is encouraged to learn and play along with these first four songs.

RiverGrass will operate in the Bluegrass Jam tradition, accoustic accordions, harmonicas, flutes and penny whistles are allowed, but accordions are limited to American folk and river dance music.

RiverGrass will not have drumsets, but rubboard, triangle, spoons, sticks small hand drums are welcomed.

RiverGrass plays in a culturally diverse neighborhood, with culturally diverse participants. Rivergrass celebrates culturally diverse music.

RiverGrass honors all acoustic folk music traditions; bluegrass, newgrass, swamp, rock and roll, country, blues, R&B, hip hop, cajun, texmex, creole, soul, gospel, zydeco, norteno, contra, rockabilly....

RiverGrass, is only rarely about virtuoso solo performances. Rivergrass is about everyone playing along with every song that is performed. With beginners playing more softly as they come up the learning curve....

RiverGrass especially encourages music about Rivers, Swamps, and Bayou themes. Rivergrass encourages music that inspires people to dance. Although our Rivergrass sessions will not be for dancing, our prefered music will be danceable.. but not necessarily so..

In this Spirit New Haven’s RiverGrass music community is born...

RiverGrass started and meets out on the grass alongside The Quinnipiac River in the Fairhaven Chatham Square Community. Rivergrass is primarily located in New Haven’s Quinnipiac River Communities.

There will be two regular hosts, BlueGrass Banjo Maestro, and Louisiana Accordionist. with Guest hosts as well.

At least once a year RiverGrass will have an opportunity to play at “RiverFest “ a local Chatham Square annual outdoor music festival.
