Event Description
This August 14, Unidad Latina en Acción - ULA will publicly launch our campaign to make New Haven a real sanctuary city. Please join us at a press conference outside City Hall at 5:30 pm.
In 2006, ULA and our allies created the General Order of Police 06-02, which discouraged New Haven Police from collaborating with ICE. In 2007, ULA and our partners led the nation by creating the first municipal ID card for all residents regardless of immigrant status.
The problem is that the General Order 06-02 is thirteen years out of date. We need New Haven to enact a Sanctuary City Ordinance to ensure that all City employees serve all residents, regardless of immigrant status, without collaborating with ICE. Our community deserves to live without fear.
For the past two years, ULA has been meeting with city officials and working constantly with the immigrant community. In the process, we have seen that New Haven urgently needs to enact the Sanctuary City Ordinance, since the Trump administration threatens deportations and violence in our neighborhoods and throughout the country.
