However, this September ends on a Friday, so we could also schedule it for the first Sunday in October. The event is advertised on the CSNA website and draws between 10 and 20 people.
Hi Folks,

Somebody has been vandalizing the new play area at Dover Beach park. Over the past 4 monts, they have knocked down 3 fence panels from around the play area. Each time I called the city, but all they did was haul away the panels, they never replaced them. The vandals also beat up the trash can and removed its wheels so it won't stand up anymore and trash goes everywhere; I called about this as well but to no avail. He had a rough winter, however, due to all the snow wiping out parking, and now the road construction on Quinnipiac continuing the same problem. He said his sales volume is down to half of what it was in the fall, and he's worried about how long he can continue like this.

We need more businesses like Grand Vin in our neighborhood. I urge everybody to do their wine and beer shopping here, if you have to park around the corner, somebody in the store will gladly help you carry your merchandise there.

I was really upset by an article in this week's New Haven Advocate (June 3) that describes our neighborhood in a very negative light. The best way to solve our problems is to get more good people to move into this area--and that's not going to happen if our public image is mired in stereotypes. So I sent a letter to the editor (see below). I hope others do the same.

I have been living in this area, first on Front Street and now on Perkins Street, for nearly 10 years, and have seen a dramatic transformation of this neighborhood during that time. Most of the houses on Front Street are now owner occupied, and those that are not are well maintained by responsible landlords (including a beautiful new affordable housing development, Quinnipiac Terrace). One may occasionally see prostitutes on hot summer nights, especially on Grand Avenue, but that is far from making this are a “red light district.” I also object to the author’s reference to this neighborhood as “teeming with low-income families.” Using a word more commonly used to refer to animals or insects (a pond teeming with fish, or a barrel teeming with insects) is disrespectful and only reinforces negative stereotypes. Please do your research and keep your prejudices to yourself!

Hi all,

I just posted a request for more trash bins in the park at SEECLICKFIX. I participated in a neighborhood cleanup last Saturday, and part of the problem is there are no bins for folks to put trash esp. at the southern end of the park. Pleaes go to SEECLICKFIX and add your name to my request. Maybe if more people ask for this, we will finally get bins

Thanks
