SUMMER SOLSTICE BONFIRE ON THE QUINNIPIAC RIVER? Just a somewhat crazy idea... Are you in?

Last weekend I was in Providence, RI - they have there an amazing public art understanding.  The non-profit organization WATERFIRE is turning a downtown waterfront into an awesome performance arts scene...  I was jealous.  New Haven long time ago decided to cut off itself from the waterfront and very little of public life actually happens on the water,  But a lot of that little happens on the Quinnipiac River... I wonder if we could add…

Start Bank "adopts" Columbus Family Academy 8th grade class

The Christopher Columbus Family Academy at 255 Blatchley Street in Fair Haven is designed for its students to have hands-on experiences. Paper airplanes and pinwheels are art pieces incorporated into the walls of the building, which allows students to measure angles.  Need to learn about north, south, east and west?  Just identify the four trade wind sculptures that will help you find the way.  Want to become an astronomer?  Begin by searching for Cassiopeia in the mosaic of the entrance…

Good News from the New Haven Independent: “Ghost” Trail Leads To Dirt Bikers

A woman called the cops after seeing a dirt biker tear down Norton Street. Carlos Conceicao and Josh Kyle turned the corner wondering if the call was about the biker they’d been looking for. They had a “ghost” of an idea of how to catch him—on foot.

The idea: collect information to produce “ghost warrants.” And show that cops without wheels can have the last laugh.

The two walking cops (pictured above, conferring with…

water park quilt

I photographed children playing in the Lewis Street water park last summer. I transferred them to a photographic material and stitched them with embroidery. The material directly behind the images is an African woven fabric.

Dirt bike strikes 7 year old girl on sidewalk!

The dirt bike/atv problem is rampant all over New Haven! In our neighborhood, I saw a kid riding on the sidewalk on Front Street this week. What can we do? The cops are telling us to report any sightings of where they stash them, call if you see where they park, they say. OK, fine. Problem is, we already do that, and the problem is not getting any better. It's already worse than last year and last year was terrible.

Shall we brainstorm how to effectively combat this?…

SOILent Green - Made FOR People

Fair Haven, CT - “Soylent green is people!” So screams the blustering bloviator of 1970 b-film maxims, Charlton Heston [I mean, who can forget this gem,It’s a Madhouse! from that ape flick] at the end of the same titled film when he discovers that Soylent Green is not just a natural food product created to feed the starving…
