I like this idea and I want to share an experience.
My younger sister in Mexico City has two children, She was impressed for the presentation and tour of the Montessori school. And obviously her husband and her wanted their two kids at this school; all that was going good since both parent though they were making the best choice for their kids. My family learn quickly that they shouldn't skip basics questions. We all parents after the first year know that each child born with they own personality, and maybe some times we do not realize how important that will be for us to help our kids in live. My sister and her husband learn that very quickly.
They took my nice to this school, She's the older and had such a hard time to adapt to the Montessori school and just no matter what the teachers tried, seems like my nice come back home complaining almost everyday. So, my sister didn't give up easy and she try an other school (since in Mexico are different kind on Montessori schools) did not worked out neither. But, since the school was " good" my family diced to try one more time with the younger boy witch was a completely different story; he adapted almost immediately to the system and seems to be happier and learning in a different system of his sister.
My nice (10 year now) is in a privet school in Mexico doing great, she's a chess champion twice , she's A's student and the complains about school stops.School and parents choices are rule for the kids personalities.
That is what I learn and applied with my own son, he's doing good at school moving forward and feeling happy at school. I want to believe because I have trying very hard to respect his choices and is NOT being easy to support he's choices like to go to a public school in New Haven. while I was prepare after saved for 4 years for him to go the Notre Dame west haven high school. But we had a deal, that if he did do well in the first year, he will go to the WH high school no "question asked". Well, WE visited all the high school in New Haven. and seams like he made the right choice he's a A's and B's student and so far no complains.
For last, In my opinion may be we do not need an other system maybe we can learn the best from it and use them to make changes to the "educational reform" in small proportion that those not seems like we are tying to change the hole system. In other word we not need BIG school, small environments makes the difference.
Sorry if I did extended my self to much but, I feel passionate about children education, choices and happiness.
