Minutes for AGENDA

March 19, 2014 ~ 6:05 pm – 7:35pm

  • Welcome and Introductions
  • CARE: Yale School Public Health Report – Alycia\Luz- no major updates
    • Economic Development – Crystal\Chandra\Lee-
      • Upcoming Community Soup Night: Sunday March 30th 6-8pm @ 6 Lombard St- home of Liz and Ihssane.  Please bring a bowl and spoon, invite a neighbor and come on over.
    • Annual Neighborhood Clean up: Sat. Apr.5- usually takes 1 hr.; need 30 people to volunteer for the cleanup, we need adults to lead supervision of volunteers
    • Water Front weekend 2014
      • Connection to Fair Haven Family Stroll: May 3- 10am to 2pm

b) CSNA table- tabling signup form will be available at next meeting, if you are interested in being involved, email Dieniz at diez213@gmail.com

  • Riverfest 2014: May 4
    • Interested in volunteering or helping with planning, contact Christel- manningc@gmail.com
    • Signup schedule for outreach table will be available at next meeting
    • Chatham Square Neighborhood Festival: September 6- SAVE THE DATE
      • Need a stage manager- Dieniz has agreed to be the stage manager for this event
    • Neighborhood Vision Statement discussion Christel\Chandra- vision statement was presented and voted on- all were in favor of finalizing the vision statement and sending it to mayor’s office/ posting on our website- it is a living document, feel free to give Christel/Chandra feedback
  • Youth, Children & Families– Mary Ann\Sally
    • Tutoring program- currently have about 25 kids participating, several have made honor roll and have really turned around their grades J
    • Q Terrace Talent Show: FRIDAY 6pm (Please attend, bring a friend)- PLEASE ATTEND AND SUPPORT THE KIDS
      • Location: Quinnipiac terrace community room- 2 john Williamson drive
    • Easter Egg Hunt- April 20th 1-3pm- need adults to help supervise activities and lead children in craft projects- contact Mary Ann at 2038650792 to sign up
    • Art in the Park- not set up yet, we need adults to supervise/ bring crafts for kids- please contact Mary Ann
    • Q Garden at Clinton Avenue School-the school has embraced the garden and now teachers will be using it with classes.  Starting up in April
      • Clean up will happen also on April 5th – goal to have some of the people helping with neighborhood cleanup assist with Gardens as well
      • Strong School building Project (SPACe) Update- Lee
        • City RfP and Main St. consultants – on Monday at 4pm several alders will be meeting to have a tour of the school- if you are able to attend, please contact Lee
          • ORL construction will be helping us price out the actual cost of all repairs needed for the school
    • Collecting artist information- Yale student is helping us put together a document based on information from local artists that will depict the way artists will interact with the strong school and how they will add to the community through the use of this space.  If you are a local Fair Haven Artist or know someone who is, have them contact Tess at tesscroner@gmail.com for more details.
    • Community Assessment – Chandra did a community assessment and has shared it with CSNA for internal use purposes
    • Finance Report- Lee
      • Currently we have $11,181.68 in the CSNA bank account
        • $2500 is already committed to the Q Terrace afterschool program
        • About $6000 is money from CARE
        • The remainder is money we have fundraised through events and from our website sponsor fees
        • Web presence report: website, Facebook – Lee
          • Our web presence is stronger, we need people to like our facebook page and post events on both the website and facebook page, invite others in area to join website, let local business owners know that they can advertise on our website for a low fee
  • Police\Safety Report – Rose- 203-589-9683
    • Safety has been pretty good in the area, there were a few incidents, including a Christel’s car wheels being stolen.  The police is already on the watch for dirt bikes and 4 wheelers; one of the biggest offenders on dirt bike from last summer was sentenced to 2 years.  No other major issues in community.

  • Announcements
    • New Haven Land Trust Gardening Workshop 10-12pm 3/29 Neighborhood Housing Services, 333 Sherman Ave. New Haven
    • International Festival of Arts & Ideas Fair Haven Popup Festival, Sat. June 7.
    • April 27th- Clean up at Dover St Park- need supervisors for students
    • April 5th- GET FIT DAY- 10am-3pm @ New Haven Green- food, fun, etc
    • Ralph Ramon- there is now a bank account at START bank under his name that will go to good causes in New Haven- please feel free to donate if you feel moved to do so
      • Reach out to Ralph and show support if you know him/ to your comfort level
    • Boxing Exhibit on March 29th from 6-10pm next to Fair Haven School at Boxing Gym
    • New website for young professionals- ctyp.org
    • Poetry Reading Downtown Thursday 3/20
    • Warning: false calls in CT being made to people about their relative being abducted- these are false calls and you should contact your local police immediately.  The undocumented community is at high risk of being targeted, please warn your neighbors/ others in community and encourage them to contact police if they have experienced this issue.
