Event Description

The Youth and Recreation Department will be offering opportunities for guided canoe excursions in New Haven parks this weekend- specifics below.  
Come paddle canoes with your friends and family,  or make new ones! No previous experience necessary – basic instruction, equipment,  and certified instructors will be available. 
These events are free and open to New Haven residents of all ages, for a unique opportunity to explore our parks, enjoy the migrating wildlife, and appreciate the foliage’s changing colors along the Mill and West Rivers. Residents with physical disabilities are also encouraged to participate. Please contact the Outdoor Adventure Coordinator and Adaptive Paddling Instructor to discuss access and adaptations mtorresq@newhavenct.gov (203) 946-6768.
On Saturday October 23 the event will be at the Mill River, from 12PM-4PM 
Meet at the canoe launch site on Orange Street (between Cold Spring and Farnam Drive).
Four trips: 12PM, 1, PM, *2PM, 3PM.  *Mayor Elicker will be leading the 2 PM trip.
 
Sunday October 24 the event will be at the West River. 1PM-5PM 
Meet at the Barnard Nature Center (Derby Ave and Ella T. Grasso Blvd), entrance on Derby Ave. 
Four trips: 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM.  
Please read the following details:
Each trip will be managed and guided by staff.
Basic instruction will be provided by certified ACA instructors, at the start of each trip.
Please arrive with ample time (15 minutes prior to the start time) to check in,  gear up, and to perform COVID protocols. 
Participants are required to wear a mask if less than 6 feet from each other (unless members of the same household),  and to provide contact tracing information. 
3-5 participants per boat, depending on individual size and skill level. Rides will last approximately 45 minutes. 
No pets allowed except service dogs. 
Space is limited to the first 40-45 participants per trip.  
Please pre-register with Martin mtorresq@newhavenct.gov. Please  provide the ages and total members in your party. 
You will receive confirmation via email.
