GEMS: MakeHaven Intro Program
Guided Exploration of Makerspace Skills
Ready for a fantastic 10-week ride? Join the GEMS program where you and the rest of your cohort will earn digital badges – those oh-so-valuable micro-credentials that show off your safety and tool skills! Laurel, our GEMS Coach, will be there each step of the way to cheer you on every step of the way and make sure each person has a positive and effective experience.
Imagine yourself in a cozy cohort of 8 to 12 awesome folks, dedicating an evening a week to our hands-on makerspace. We're covering Wood, Textiles, Digital, and Metal – all the basics to start your maker muse!
Get ready for a journey of learning and creating. Turn those goals into badges and make these 10 weeks a super enjoyable experience!
Participants must be at least 18 years old and MakeHaven members to participate (scholarships based on need available).
During the program, participants will go through tool introductions, both as a group and independently with guidance. These digital badges serve as a record of the participant's progress in completing the required safety orientations for different tools. The goal of the program is to earn 12+ badges with at least two in each of the focus areas (wood, metal, textiles, digital), and complete a project in each section that can be presented in a show-and-tell session during graduation.
