DESCRIPTION:Hands on learning of the fundamentals of safe and practica
 l use of a Metal Lathe.\nStudents who successfully compete this class 
 will earn the Metal Lathe badge, allowing ongoing use for members. No 
 previous experience required.\nThe Learning Objectives are as follows:
 \n\nIdentify the locations and function of the milling machine's E-st
 op\nIdentify and demonstrate proper use of Personal Protective Equipme
 nt (PPE)\nExplain and Identify Lock Out-Tag Out procedure and guidelin
 es for the milling machine\nList/adhere to all shop/lab safety rules e
 stablished by Make Haven\nIdentify the location and function of the co
 mponents on the lathe\nDemonstrate safe insertion and removal of cutti
 ng tools\nDemonstrate adequate chucking procedure of work-piece\nDemon
 strate proper start up and speed selection sequence for both lathes\nI
 dentify and confirm proper spindle rotation for intended cutting tool\
 nIdentify and explain the function of machines preventative maintenanc
 e (TPM) requirements\nDemonstrate the accurate and safe indicating of 
 the machines chuck\nDemonstrate proper care and use of precision measu
 ring tools (dial indicator, micrometer, dial caliper)\nReference the M
 achinists Handbook for proper tool selection / cutting speeds and feed
 s.\nProduce an effective High Speed Steel Turning Tool on the Pedestal
  Grinder\n\nNote\nThere will be three chapters of required reading bef
 ore starting class. Text will be emailed after registration. \nSucces
 sful students will earn the Metal Lathe badge, but badge is not guaran
 teed and is based on the instructor's assessment.\nThis is an in-perso
 n, hands-on class. Participants will be required to wear a mask coveri
 ng the nose and mouth and keep distanced. Anyone experiencing symptoms
