Updating an older home means balancing the aesthetic with the practical. An energy retrofit and historic rehab can go hand-in-hand, with some costs contained by knowing about available historic preservation and energy tax credits. The results can be a low-cost-to maintain home combining the best of the old and the new. This workshop showcases one local rehab, The James L. Bassett House at 13 Lewis Street, a project of Corey Stone and Nancy Greenberg of Verdigris Ventures. It will cover:
• The historic preservation tax credit program
• The programs available for financing energy efficiency
• The energy efficiency features of the house
• What could be preserved, what needed to be replaced, and other solutions that are worth a try
This program is presented as a collaboration between NHPT, the Livable City Initiative and the New Haven Free Public Library.
