Hungry Children in our Neighborhood and Open Schools Providing Free Meals

This email announcements was sent to me as part from the City Wide Youth Coalition's (CWYC). It is a great email blast to join to stay on top of events, meetings, activities, etc. through the city that are not always widely publicized.

Go to: http://www.sde.ct.gov/sde/LIB/sde/pdf/deps/Nutrition/SFSP/sites/New...; if the links do not work from this post and it will direct you to the schools providing free meals in our neighborhood. Please make sure your neighbors with children are aware of this very important program. Our children are well taken care of through the school year but many rely on their school meals which are then absent through their summer vacation. Spread the word or hang up signs! --Jenny

"New Haven Public Schools post:

Hungry Kids and the Summer unfortunately go hand in hand. Not ALL children are looking forward to the school year being finished. Despite not having to cram for tests, do homework and the ability to sleep late in the morning,
summertime also opens up a severe problem to hungry children. LACK OF FOOD.

In New Haven we offer 36 open sites, 7 closed sites and this year we will be feeding Hamden children in 4 of their schools, all closed sites. An open site is a site that any child 18 and under can go to receive a free breakfast or
lunch. A closed site is a site where only the children enrolled in a summer
program there have access to the meals. For a list of the site locations for
New Haven and Hamden CLICK HERE. For the list of locations throughout the state click here.

Below are our Summer Breakfast and Lunch menu.
