Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront

Letter From David V. Hunter, President & CEO Mary Wade

Dear Friend of Mary Wade,

Now, more than ever, we need your help.

Mary Wade is on the front lines ensuring that our most vulnerable elders are safe and protected from infection and the spread of COVID-19.   While we have not yet seen any incidence, we are ever prepared to provide the high quality care to our seniors for which Mary Wade is recognized. We have enacted new procedures and policies that will reduce the risk to our community.

But we are doing this at a high cost

  • We are losing $100,000 month in revenue due to the closing of our Adult Day Center
  • We had to cut back our transportation services
  • We are forced to significantly reduce the number of admissions
  • We have reduced the number of available beds to create private rooms to care for residents testing positive
  • Increasing purchases of infection control supplies and personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Resulting reduction in staff productivity

With all this, Mary Wade has been able to

  • Avoid layoffs and maintained our staffing and reassigned drivers, ADC personnel and others to other areas of the operation
  • Provide additional resources to enable our non-essential staff to work remotely

All this and more has resulted in dramatic reductions to our already meager revenue streams.

And the federal government has not provided for a “care package” to rescue not for profit nursing homes such as Mary Wade. Instead, the government is providing small business no or low-interest loans, but have excluded not for profit organizations AND those organizations that receive Medicaid funding, revenue already well below market rates.

We’re in a Catch-22….ever committed to our mission of providing high quality medical and social programs for our most vulnerable older adults, while at the same time fulfilling that mission at a devastating cost. Please help us continue our mission…at all costs, by making a tax deductible gift today.

We encourage you to make your gift online by clicking here, or you can mail your gift to: Mary Wade
