TEMPORARY POSITION: SURVEY ADMINISTRATORS

Neighborhood Health Data Collection

August-October 2012

 

General Description

As part of a large community based research project, CARE will be collecting health surveys from 1400 New Haven residents in six neighborhoods:  Dixwell, Fair Haven, Hill North, Newhallville, West River/Dwight and West Rock. CARE is recruiting 15-18 people to assist with survey administration for approximately eight weeks from late September through November.

 

Schedule/hours

Training: A three-day training session will be held from Tuesday, August 28th through Thursday, August 30th from 9AM-5PM.

Survey Administration: September 4, 2012 through October 19, 2012 (approximate end date)

Monday through Thursday, 2PM-7PM

Saturday, 11AM-6PM

 

Responsibilities

Starting Tuesday, September 4th, survey field teams (two people per team) will administer an electronic survey to New Haven residents using a handheld computer.  Survey field teams will knock on randomly selected address doors between the hours of 2pm and 7pm on weekdays and 11am to 6pm on Saturdays.  Field teams will screen household members to select one adult over 18 and under 65 to participate in the survey. Field teams will verbally administer the survey to one adult per household and input the data into the handheld computer. Survey administration will take approximately 30-45 minutes per household. Field teams will be responsible for tracking participation of households.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Available for all hours during the entire duration of data collection.
  2. Ability to work in an urban environment and with diverse populations.
  3. Knowledge and familiarity of New Haven’s neighborhoods, particularly the six targeted neighborhoods.
  4. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  5. Well organized and excellent attention to detail.
  6. Ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative.
  7. Experience working in a research setting.
  8. Knowledge of various computer programs.
  9. Valid CT driver's license with available transportation.
  10. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  11. Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish.

 

Payment The hourly rate for this temporary position is $15/hour.
