Dive into the ancient craft of blacksmithing in this hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of forging metal. Guided by an experienced blacksmith, you’ll shape hot steel into a functional and timeless gate hook using traditional techniques.Whether you’re a first-time smith or looking to refine your skills, this workshop provides a fiery introduction to the art of metalworking.
What to Expect
• An introduction to forge safety, tools, and materials used in blacksmithing.
• Step-by-step demonstrations of forging techniques, including heating, hammering, and shaping metal.
• Personalized guidance as you create your own handcrafted gate hook.
• Tips and tricks to recognize the key color changes in metal during heating and cooling processes.
Skills You’ll Acquire
• Forge safety and setup procedures.
• Proper hammering techniques for shaping metal.
• Understanding of metal properties, including temperature indicators.
• Completion of a forged gate hook to take home.

• Access to a forge, anvil, and blacksmithing tools.

Who Should Attend
This workshop is perfect for beginners with no prior experience, as well as those interested in learning foundational blacksmithing techniques.
Prerequisites/Safety Information
• Participants must wear closed toe shoes or boots, and long pants.
• Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the class.
All safety gear, including personal protective equipment (PPE), will be provided.
