Make a journal, sketchbook, or notebook encased in a flexible Kraft-Tex cover that looks and behaves like leather. In this hands-on workshop you’ll sew refillable page inserts, design a cover with pockets and a closure of your choice, and leave with a finished refillable notebook prototype you can reuse and customize.
What to Expect
Expect demonstrations and guided work time: you’ll fold and hand-sew signatures (page inserts), plan and assemble a Kraft-Tex cover, add optional pockets, and attach your chosen closure. The instructor will offer step-by-step support so you can complete a working refillable notebook during the session.
Skills You’ll Acquire
• How to hand-sew signatures (page inserts) using standard paper
• Planning and constructing a Kraft-Tex cover that mimics leather
• Adding pockets and designing a closure system (elastic, strap, snap, etc.)
• Basic finishing techniques for a durable, refillable notebook
What’s Provided
• Needles, thread, closure materials, elastic, and other hardware (provided/loaned by instructor)
• Instructor-supplied Kraft-Tex in two colors (instructor will submit receipts)
• Instructional templates and guidance throughout the workshop
Consumables you should bring:
• Any colored paper you’d like to include (use what you have on hand)
Who Should Attend
Open to makers of all levels. This is a beginning-friendly class that also suits more experienced crafters who want to learn or refine hand-sewn bookbinding and Kraft-Tex cover techniques. Participants ages 13–18 are welcome with parental/guardian supervision.
Prerequisites / Safety Information
No prior experience required. Bring ideas for how you’ll use the notebook and a phone or camera to take process photos. Please wear comfortable clothes suitable for crafting.
