Tonight, Thursday, May 8 @ 7p at the Mary Wade Home, the Office of Economic Development of the City of New Haven will make a presentation about the "Request for Proposal" (RFP) for the Strong School building. The City must put out this request for proposal no matter how interested they are in our local, neighborhood proposal. This is part of the process of separating the building from the rolls of City property.
As many of you know, there is a group of local residents, organized through our neighborhood association, that proposes the building become the home of an arts center, paid for through revenue generated by renting the building classrooms and offices to arts organizations. We have a list of local organizations that have already expressed interest in renting space in the building.
If you would like to see economic revitalization of our neighborhood via the arts, please join us on Thursday evening to hear about the RFP and show our neighborhood commitment to economic development in partnership with local arts organizations and to the benefit of our neighborhood. This is a show of interest, not a show of force, the City wants to work with us.
Please come even if you can just stay for a few minutes. Your signature on the sign in sheet demonstrates our neighborhood resolve to work to revitalize our neighborhood through the arts and with minimal cost to the city (our tax dollars).
For those who are interested, there will be a brief presentation of our neighborhood plan for the building, how we plan to finance it, and who is already working with us to make this happen. The list is impressive. This presentation will be after the city presentation of the RFP.
Please come or send a household representative! Thank you.
