Participants will learn how to troubleshoot, tear down, and rebuild computers, building the confidence to handle common tech issues at home. Whether you want to upgrade the RAM in your laptop, replace a cracked screen, recover data from an old hard drive, or just understand what’s inside your desktop tower, this workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the tools, terms, and techniques of DIY computer repair.
What to Expect
We’ll start by taking apart a desktop tower, identifying components like the power supply, motherboard, and storage drives, and walking through safe troubleshooting practices. Then we’ll move on to laptops, where things get a bit more compact and delicate. Everyone will get hands-on time working on either a desktop or laptop, with guidance throughout.
Participants are welcome to bring their own computer or device to explore, with the understanding that this class is focused on learning—not on guaranteed repairs. The goal is to build knowledge and confidence, not necessarily to walk out with a fixed machine.
Skills You’ll Acquire
How to identify and understand computer components
Basic troubleshooting steps for common tech issues
Safe disassembly and reassembly techniques
How to handle internal parts without causing damage
Tips for upgrading, repairing, or reusing computers at home
What’s Provided
Desktop and laptop units to explore
Repair tools and safety gear
Anti-static protection and handling materials
All necessary parts and supplies for the class
Who Should Attend
Perfect for anyone who wants to understand their home computer better, save money on repairs, or take the first step into DIY tech work. No experience necessary—just bring your curiosity!
Prerequisites/Safety Information
No prior experience required. Participants will be working with open electronics; safety practices will be reviewed before we begin.
