Bring your vision to life! Go from your image to a printable woodcut block you can use again and again. Create a one or two color print! Woodcut is a type of printmaking process. The art of printmaking involves the creation of a "master" printing block, from which multiple prints can then be made. The creation of a woodcut block is a very satisfying and tactile process, where hand tools are used to carve out the image that will be printed.
In this introductory workshop, students will learn how to:
*Use the carving tools
* prepare an image for carving.
* execute basic carving techniques
* print your block by hand
* print multiple colors (registration)
* print cards or stationary.
During this 3 hour class, you will develop a one or two color design on tracing paper, and transfer the designs to two woodblocks. Printing is done by hand, using water-based ink, white cards and a Japanese tool called a barren. Registration (which is lining up the separate colors) will be demonstrated. You will take home multiple prints, your block, and a resource guide with instructions and a shopping list so that you can continue to practice on your own. Themes, images and ideas are open-ended and entirely up to you, have some sketches or images in mind before this class! Available block sizes are: 4" X 4", 4" X 6" and 6"X6"
This class is led by Michael Angelis. $40.00. Make Haven members register for the reduced member price.
