Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront

We had our July meeting at Mary Wade last night to discuss our finances, a fiduciary agent, insurance and our summer activities. We are postponing soccer for August since we are investigating insurance to cover our activities. Our funding sources are requiring that we carry insurance. Hope is researching this and will work with Fereshna to get us the best price.  We are still searching for a fiduciary partner since Mary Wade was unable to do it. We may begin kids soccer later in the month or do it in September. Alycia asked us to get our final CARE metrics in so we can process funding for our Boot Camp and healthy activities, Hope is working with her on our contract with Care. Eric reported that the community garden on Peck street is planted and growing. Neighbors are already curious and picking some veggies. He also is proposing that we reach out to the Senior citizens at Ruopalo Manor and possibly schedule a CSNA steering committee meeting there. Everyone agreed this is a great idea. We are planning another CSNA dinner out for Tuesday July 27,2010 at Grand Apizza, all are welcome for a great neighborhood night out. CSNA has purchased 25 copies of Manuel & the Lobsterman for the children at Quinnipiac Terrace. This is a book about a boy who grew up in Fair Haven and went to Clinton Ave school. The author Cat Urbaina will be coming to the community room at Quinnipiac terrace  on August 4th at 1:00pm to do a presentation to the kids . She did this same presentation at Clinton Avenue School for the 3rd, 4th & 5th graders. She will be going back in the fall to work with them on writing their own story.  Our first art event at Quinnipiac Terrace was a success ( we are doing these on Tuesday at 1:00pm in the community room. On Thursday afternoons we are sponsoring a cook out for the kids of the neighborhood at Dover Beach , we are playing games and volleyball. It starts at 1:00pm and all are welcome. Yoga at  Quinnipiac Terrace is staring this Friday at 10:am in the community room. Sally reported that the Creative Arts workshop is doing our next Art in the Park on Juky 31 at 1pm. They are having music, drumming and craft making, please join us.  She also discussed the writing & expression workshops Aaron Jafferis will do with neighborhhood kids with a goal of having the kids do a presentation at the fall  festival.  The sidewalks on Perkins street look great. Thank you city officials, Paula Walker is getting a petition signed by neighbors to get sideswalks around Chatham Square Park. Please join us at our next CSNA steering committee meeting the third Wednesday of August. Have a great summer and feel free to comment. Mary Ann
