Chatham Square Association

Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront

The Economic Development group met on Monday, April 14, 2014, from 6 – 7:30 pm at 333 Front Street. Present: Christel Manning, Nathalie Bonafe, Don Harvey, Melissa Waldron, Lee Cruz.

Items discussed:

1. Planning for Riverfest 2014. Carlos has updated our Riverfest website to show various new items since last meeting. There will be 3 bands and 3 breweries doing tastings, canoeing, a magic show, crafts table, face painting table, QRWA will share a table with CSNA, and Coast Guard will also have a table. Sgt. Johnson of NHPD has been notified. Christel created a sponsor form to assist in fundraising for this event. Melissa has a promise from Fair Haven Furniture to donate; Ihssane also has some leads. Carlos and Mary Ann will be at QRWA table to assist children who need financial aid for canoe rides. Nathalie and Sarah will take photos at event.

The main thing left to do is PROMOTION!! Here are how we are trying to get the word out:

--Channel 8 will do live coverage on Wednesday, April 30 at 9 am. Lee and Christel will attend. Please let us know if you want to come too!

--Quinnipiacriverfest.com . . . . tell your friends

--Fairhavenfamilystroll.org . . . tell your friends

--Nathalie’s Riverfest Facebook event . . . invite your friends

--Banner . . . Anastasio will pay for this. Lee will follow up to make sure this is posted.

--Flyers . . . Don and Carlos created a beautiful letter size color flyer which can be posted around town. Christel will contact FHFS contact (Arie and/or Kathleen) to follow up on their offer to pay for Xeroxing. She will ask for volunteers to help post at the Wednesday CSNA meeting. The following individuals have already volunteered: Lee (Chatham Square area, Westville, Audubon Street); Nathalie (English Market on Chapel St., P&M Marekt on Orange St. plus several other stores on State St.); Don (Grand Vin); Melissa (the Grove; Elm City Market).

--Spanish flyers? . . . Don will contact Carlos to see if he can translate the flyer.

--Westville Art Walk people will be cross promoting with us

--Local newspapers: New Haven Independent and at Info New Haven . . . Lee thinks he already posted there; he will check to make sure info is up to date.

--NPR community calendar . . . Christel will post.

--Beer companies may want to promote event . . . Carlos can ask them

2. Dining Out Night: We want to give Rinconcito, the Mexican restaurant on Middletown Ave., another chance; Lee will contact the owner (possible dates: 4/22, 23, 24).

3. Vision statement: Christel reported on edits she and Chandra had made since last meeting. The revised statement has been posted on CSNA for comments. Next step is presentation to the city. We will need to create a shorter version (with fewer bullet points) for this. We will address this at our next Economic Development meeting.
