POSITION DESCRIPTION: New Haven Farms Program Manager

Organization Overview:​​ New Haven Farms (NHF) is an innovative community based non-profit with the mission to promote health and community development through urban agriculture. NHF operates seven urban farms in the city of New Haven, distributing organically-grown produce to low income families through several programs and activities. NHF’s signature program, The Farm Based Wellness Program (FBWP) , provides gardening, nutrition, cooking and lifestyle change education to medically referred participants. Job Summary: ​​The Program Manager is an integral part of the management team whose primary responsibility is to plan, manage and coordinate all community outreach and educational programs including program design, curriculum development, participant recruitment, logistical support, staff oversight, evaluation, and limited program delivery. The program manager position is responsible for overseeing the following programs: FBWP, the Incubator Garden Program, the Community Health Ambassador Program, and Youth Internship Program. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Essential Functions:

  • ●  Collaborate with the Executive Director, Program Committee, Farm Manager, seasonal staff, volunteers, evaluation team and community partners to plan, execute, supervise, and evaluate NHF’s programs

  • ●  Strengthen partnerships with healthcare providers to manage the FBWP referral process

  • ●  Work within the community of New Haven to advertise, recruit, and promote the FBWP

    to eligible families, assuring the FBWP is fully enrolled

  • ●  Balance competing demands to ensure that the programmatic components of NHF are

    grounded in best practices, consistently meet performance objectives and bring

    measurable evidence-based value to program participants and other stakeholders

  • ●  Lead, direct and hire staff, interns and volunteers in a positive, healthy work

    environment to facilitate the execution of NHF’s programs

  • ●  Utilize and evaluate systems and software for program data such as the expanded use of

    Salesforce, use of text-messaging software for recruitment and integrating

    communication through electronic media records

  • ●  Work with NHF Staff and New Haven Land Trust to design and execute our youth

    programming, including Youth At Work, focusing on New Haven youth ages 14-18

  • ●  Supervise FBWP Tuesday and Thursday evenings June-September

  • ●  Manage the annual program budget

  • ●  Assist with development projects such as annual fundraisers and grant writing

  • ●  Prepare program reports for both funders and the Board

  • ●  Serve as a representative for New Haven Farms at Community Management team

    meetings and other community events

Continue building a culture of community inclusion and equity in our programming, working to create and strengthen pathways to leadership and personal empowerment for our program participants

Qualifications:

Required

  • ●  Experience in senior leadership and or management role in the nonprofit sector (or

    related field), with an understanding of the challenges faced by leaders of small

    grassroots nonprofits

  • ●  Demonstrated experience (via paid work, volunteer, or life experience) in managing

    various aspects of operations such as finances and human resources

  • ●  Fluency in written and spoken Spanish (ideally in a wide range of dialects)

  • ●  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and Google Suite

  • ●  Excellent communication skills

    Prefered:

  • ●  Degree in public health, nutrition or health-related field

  • ●  Experience with Salesforce or other data management software

  • ●  Experience with Quickbooks

  • ●  Experience with electronic medical records such as EPIC

    Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities

  • ●  Deep familiarity and experience working in the New Haven community

  • ●  Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and sense of humor as to thrive in a small mission

    driven, community based non-profit organization

  • ●  Experience in managing and delivering community public health programming

  • ●  Passion for social and food justice, equity, diversity and NHF’s mission

  • ●  High level of emotional intelligence, with the skill and passion to develop deep, trusting

    relationships with the diverse and vulnerable populations in our constituent population

  • ●  The capacity to clearly and powerfully communicate, both verbally and in writing, the

    value of our program content and its impact

  • ●  Adaptability and cultural competency to shift communication and consulting styles to fit

    the needs of a wide range of cultures, people, and organization

  • ●  Dynamic and skilled educator, with specific experience working with urban youth

  • ●  Experience building partnerships and fostering collaboration with other organizations

  • ●  Self motivated with the ability to work independently

  • ●  Experience working in a health care setting is beneficial

  • ●  An interest in or familiarity with organic agriculture is preferred

  • ●  Experience utilizing a farm as a platform for nutritional education and lifestyle

    intervention would be most helpful
