Curb Unnecessary and Excessive Tree Trimming by Utility Companies

Connecticut Fund for the Environment's campaign to curb unnecessary and excessive tree trimming by Connecticut's utility companies is gaining momentum! The coalition to protect our local communities from ugly and environmentally devastating trimming practices is growing daily. But the threats to trees are growing too.

This week, we heard about aggressive tree destruction in Weston, and we're monitoring a council hearing in Ledyard. As we share our conservation plans and strategies with new audiences, we have been learning of more and more severe tree cutting throughout Connecticut. Now, we need your help in our efforts to track it!

Have you heard of or seen any drastic trimming in your town? Do you know if any trimming is planned? If so, we'd appreciate it if you could email us (jsteinberg@ctenvironment.org) a bit of information about what is going on - the more of this info you can share, the better!

  • In which town and on which streets is the trimming located?
  • Was the trimming done on the same side of the street as the power lines?
  • Was there a Tree Removal notice posted on the tree or delivered to your home with an option to protest the removal, and, if so, can you share a photo of the notice?
  • Can you send us before and after pictures?

We appreciate your time and help,

CFE Staff
