Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront
The EAT (Education, Advocacy, and Teamwork) Healthy New Haven Coalition, comprised of a diverse group of community advocates, researchers, and healthcare professionals, collaborates to create a health-promoting environment for the families of the Greater New Haven Area through interventions that prevent and treat obesity.
The EAT Coalition first met at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity in June 2006 to gather together all those in the New Haven community who were addressing the obesity epidemic. Over thirty individuals were identified from a wide spectrum of backgrounds from public health to policy to education. The vision of the group was to forge a network among these parties so that work could be more collaborative, results more widely shared, resources better leveraged, and advocacy more effective. Over the years, this network has been sustained through the sharing of health developments, both local and national.
Most recently, the Executive Committee has provided healthcare providers and other community groups with educational materials and has advised local groups and researchers on various projects. The group continues to look for ways to draw new partners into this effort and to ultimately improve the health of New Haven through Education, Advocacy and Teamwork.
