Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront

We recently completed the insulation at 13 Lewis St. Not the ordinary fiberglass or cellulose, though. This is sprayed in foam, the most important energy-saving feature you can add to an old house. You can see from the pictures that it fills the gaps between the studs completely, providing a continuous barrier against wind and vapor. The high density foam used in the walls is very rigid so it adds structural integrity. Up in the attic you can see we went a bit overboard in foaming the rafters and gables. This oysterman's house will be WARM in the winter and cost less than a quarter of what it used to cost to heat, even with the fiberglass that was blown-in during the 1980s. --Corey

Yes, it was quite a bit more than fiberglass (which is what we replaced)--about 3X--but once you've gutted the house, the incremental cost is small relative to the long term energy savings. We had good experience with Anchor Insulation. Contact Marek Ropiak at marek.ropiak@anchorinsulation.com and let him know Corey Stone referred you. Good luck!
