Open House at 13 Lewis Street, Saturday January 29, 1:30 - 4:30PM

Dear CSNA Friends,

Come to an open house to see our completed 'historic and green' restoration of the James L. Basset House at 13 Lewis Street.  There will be refreshments, a view of the river, and a chance to learn about our energy savings guarantee.  We welcome all neighbors who can make it!  RSVPs encouraged.  --Corey

Restoration Complete at 13 Lewis

Restored Entry at 13 Lewis St

Here's the house without the porch that was added in the 80s and with the sort of steps it would have had originally. The entrance below was for James L. Basset's workshop (he was an oysterman) and the more formal entrance above was for the family living quarters. In this picture the house has been primed and is now waiting for its final trim colors and landscaping. Cheerful on Lewis Street

What Insulation Can Do

We recently completed the insulation at 13 Lewis St. Not the ordinary fiberglass or cellulose, though. This is sprayed in foam, the most important energy-saving feature you can add to an old house. You can see from the pictures that it fills the gaps between the studs completely, providing a continuous barrier against wind and vapor. The high density foam used in the walls is very rigid so it adds structural integrity. Up in the attic you can see we went a bit overboard in foaming the rafters… Continue
