Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront
Message from Mayor Justin Elicker.
There has been a large discharge of sewage into the Mill River near the Whitney Dam. Over 2 million gallons of sewage have been discharged into the river. The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority fixed the pipe earlier today so there is no longer any sewage leaking into the River. The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has been monitoring the situation We were not properly notified by the Water Pollution Control Authority the extent of the problem, or we would have notified you earlier. Even though the pipe is fixed, you should not have any contact with the water such as swimming, boating or fishing in the Mill River for several days as the polluted water moves out to sea. We will be working with the Water Pollution Control Authority to improve lines of communication so that we will have more timely notification if there are future incidents. Thank you everyone.
