Fair Haven is a Diverse Community with a Rich History and a Beautiful Waterfront
Photos of what a small, wreckless group of kids are doing on our streets, riding carelessly on our sidewalks! I did not take these, but someone else in our neighborhood smartly did, find them here on SeeClickFix: http://seeclickfix.com/issues/188072-pics-of-fair-haven-dirt-biker Sargeant Anthony Zona, Fair Haven District Manager has said he would love to see photos like these since it will help them find a way…

The Christopher Columbus Family Academy at 255 Blatchley Street in Fair Haven is designed for its students to have hands-on experiences. Paper airplanes and pinwheels are art pieces incorporated into the walls of the building, which allows students to measure angles. Need to learn about north, south, east and west? Just identify the four trade wind sculptures that will help you find the way. Want to become an astronomer? Begin by searching for Cassiopeia in the mosaic of the entrance…

A woman called the cops after seeing a dirt biker tear down Norton Street. Carlos Conceicao and Josh Kyle turned the corner wondering if the call was about the biker they’d been looking for. They had a “ghost” of an idea of how to catch him—on foot.
The idea: collect information to produce “ghost warrants.” And show that cops without wheels can have the last laugh.
The two walking cops (pictured above, conferring with…

I photographed children playing in the Lewis Street water park last summer. I transferred them to a photographic material and stitched them with embroidery. The material directly behind the images is an African woven fabric.

The dirt bike/atv problem is rampant all over New Haven! In our neighborhood, I saw a kid riding on the sidewalk on Front Street this week. What can we do? The cops are telling us to report any sightings of where they stash them, call if you see where they park, they say. OK, fine. Problem is, we already do that, and the problem is not getting any better. It's already worse than last year and last year was terrible.
Shall we brainstorm how to effectively combat this?…

Mary Coiro, a life long resident of Fair Haven, and member of a large Coiro Family who were born and raised in Fair Haven, passed away quietly on Friday, March 16, 2012, here at Mary Wade. The Funeral Mass for Mary took place today, at St. Francis Church on Ferry Street. Mary and her sister Julie played a significant role in the Fair Haven Community, mainly by "Being There" and supporting community interests and acitivities.
They will be missed.

The halls of the Fair Haven School were filled this afternoon with the music of J.S. Bach, Saint-Saens, and Mendelssohn thanks to the talents of the New Haven Chamber Orchestra. A delighted crowd welcomed the 29 member orchestra, whose musicians reside and work in our local communities. Founded in 2004 by Gordon Emerson, this group of school teachers and lawyers, business people, scientists and administrators all share a passion for music and are committed to playing the masterworks of…

Fair Haven, CT - “Soylent green is people!” So screams the blustering bloviator of 1970 b-film maxims, Charlton Heston [I mean, who can forget this gem,It’s a Madhouse! from that ape flick] at the end of the same titled film when he discovers that Soylent Green is not just a natural food product created to feed the starving…

Through the generous support of Operation Warm, Inc., Joyce Van Lines and local donors, the Amity Teen Center has acquired 1,002 brand new winter coats. Joyce Van Lines has graciously volunteered to pick up the coats and are still working out the timing and logistics with Operation Warm. In the mean time the teen center wanted to get the word out to organizations in the greater New Haven area that have children and teens in need. Do you know of programs or organizations in the greater…

Although I can't attend tonight's meeting, I want to add a question/concern for discussion. I am a daily walker in the Quinnipiac River Park, going all the way to the end near Brewery Square. I've also been a community gardener for many years, and believe in the importance of urban gardening. My question is, how will we include the needs of neighborhood children, youth, and adults who use that end of the park for impromptu football games, baseball games, picnics, and dog-walking? It has…

It is amazing to think that one year ago, January 25, 2011, during a snowstorm – of course – we welcomed our community to the Start Community Bank Grand Opening and cut the ribbons at our Whalley and Grand Avenue branches. We had received our official charter at the end of December 2010. In a typical year, about 100 banks in the US earn a charter. In 2010 there were 3; and we were one of those three.
1500 accounts and $17 million in deposits later, we want to take the time to…
