Urgent Matter Requiring Resident Support

Dear neighbors & Friends:

This morning David Z. brought to my attention that graffiti damage has been done to Lewis St. Park. Many of you know that through the efforts of many people from the Quinnipiac River Community Group, the City and our Association this park was brought back from being a very unattractive and unsafe place. I am sure that many people will ask who did this? Please note that a police report has been filed. Others will ask why this happen? The truth is we may…

Police Brutality

Outrageous! When did we return to the 90's? New Haven Police Department needs a serious shakedown but additionally the good guys on that department need us to advocate for them! We need a stronger, well supported police force AND better youth programs! …

Donations for upcoming mission trip to Guatemala

Fr Tom Goekler's (who grew up at his grandmother's Sunday dinner table at 87 Maltby Street,) ongoing mission (Zone 18) continues even though he has passed . His young men's "Caminando por la Paz" of youth from the street gangs are continuing their schooling, running the house AND tutoring in the neighborhood of Zone 18 Guatemala City.

As they continue they need school supplies, soccer supplies (cleats, shorts etc) and sneakers gently used or new- -all sizes.

A group is leaving for… Continue

Quinnipiac Tribe Pow Wow

On a gorgeous Saturday morning it was a special treat to witness the signing of a covenant to promise friendship and support between the Native American tribe and the people of the region. I particularly enjoyed learning more about the earliest inhabitants of Fair Haven.

Way to celebrate, Mary Wade Home!

What a wonderful gathering of friends, supporters, and residents who shared a warm ceremony to cut the red ribbon and open the new wing of the Mary Wade Home.  The food was delicious, the champagne flowed, and the speeches were short and sincere.  Thanks to everyone on the staff who made it a memorable event.

Grand Vin

Absolutely, we need to support them!  It's a wonderful store & the people who work there are so helpful & friendly.  I, too, have been very concerned with how the snow & "endless" construction has affected their business.  It would be very sad if yet another neighborhood business had to close.  Thanks for writing about this.  Jude

Support Grand Vin

Hi everybody,

Many of you probably know Grand Vin, on the corner of Grand and Quinnipiac Avenues.  It's a gem of store, selling a variety of fine wines, beers and liquor, more like the Wine Thief downtown than the other liquor stores on Grand Ave.  Ben, the owner, is very knowlegable, and committed to the neighborhood.  He had a rough winter, however, due to all the snow wiping out parking, and now the road construction on Quinnipiac continuing the…

Fair Haven Community Sailing - Let's Relive It Again!

So, quite frankly I have decided to follow the Nike slogan : JUST DO IT! We have been debating the topic of repeating of the community sailing aboard the schooner Quinnipiack and somehow we couldn't decide if, when etc. It was decided that planing of the sail for the May 1st would be competing with the Lobster Party at Jenelles's and the season opening of the Quinnipiac River Marina. I hope that we will be able to relive it finally again on Sunday May 22nd. …

Any photos of the Easter Bunny in Chatham Square?

The Easter Bunny that stopped by Chatham Square for the egg hunt would LOVE to have a photo or two for her scrapbook.  So if anyone took a photo that can be shared, can you post it here?  She wants to make The Tooth Fairy jealous.  :o)

Compare to New Haven! - Evaluation of Boston's 'Neighbors for Neighbors' a hub for 18 neighborhoods

Dear Neighbors

I had recently a great opportunity to present our Website as one of the examples of a NING based website to a surprisingly large group of people that gathered in The Grove, a co-working and collaborative space serving the social mission sector of New Haven. I am not an experienced public presenter and apparently my presentation drifted quickly from talking about technicalities of the NING as Web platform to…
