For the first time, participants in the summer jobs program Youth@Work had the chance to sign up for direct deposit and open a savings account at Start Community Bank in their own name, no parent co-signor required. The account came with an ATM only card with a limited daily withdrawal amount. Every Youth@Work employee, over 500 of them this year, first went through "Loot Camp" where they learned about…

Hi All,
We are having a tag sale on September 3rd and wondered if anyone else considering a tag sale might like to 1) join ours or 2) have your own. If we get a few people to join in we can call it a neighborhood tag sale.
Let me know what you think!!

For many residents it has been a long wait to see the start of the Safe Routes to School project. This project is still in process. The city was waiting for an approval from the state DOT, which has finally been granted. We are currently waiting for bids on the project to come back. Richard Miller has indicated, depending on when all bids have been received, the project could start as soon as September, otherwise it may be postponed until the spring. I will post further information as…

Hello friends and neighbors.
Regrettably, we will be leaving New Haven this fall. We moved here from halfway across the country, decided on Fair Haven without knowing anyone here, and the decision paid off bigtime. We're so happy to have shared the last few years with you, and look forward to our final few months before we move on. Our house is currently on the market, and we'd be very happy to see another family end up here that will be active in the neighborhood. The house…

Hi all
I'm an out-of-town member of the community, having enjoyed a great stay with my family with the Janke family back in 2008. I am a keen birder and noted some of the species that can be found in neighbourhood. Has anyone created a bird list, and if not, would anyone like me to submit mine?

Hi everybody,
Many of you probably know Grand Vin, on the corner of Grand and Quinnipiac Avenues. It's a gem of store, selling a variety of fine wines, beers and liquor, more like the Wine Thief downtown than the other liquor stores on Grand Ave. Ben, the owner, is very knowlegable, and committed to the neighborhood. He had a rough winter, however, due to all the snow wiping out parking, and now the road construction on Quinnipiac continuing the…
